Weekend Travel Inspiration: What’s Your Ideal Vacation?

Which of these photos makes you start day dreaming about a vacation? Which one makes you shudder? My husband would love skiing in that Colorado powder, but you couldn’t pay him to put up with the amusement park crowds. I can spend long happy hours on a beach, but the closest I get to ski slope is an armchair in lodge.

I’ve been thinking this week about how our travel style evolves as we pair off in life and then add kids to the mix. A couples’ travel styles rarely sync up perfectly, and kids definitely have different idea of fun than their parents do. Rich I love exploring cities and light adventure travel. Tiny Traveler makes those things work but would prefer a cruise or Disney World (though she will always visit Philadelphia because of Please Touch). They ski; I prefer a yoga retreat. We all love the beach.

So how does your family handle these many varied interests? Do you grit your teeth and do what the kids want to do, or do you choose the vacation you want and assume they’re along for the ride? What do you do if you’re the odd man out when it comes to an activity everyone else loves? What’s the vacation you all agree upon and what’s the vacation you just won’t do?  Share your opinions down below.

Wonderful selection of photots, the beach inspires me, the snow makes me cringe, as does the amusement park. However, we spend an enormous amount of time at snow as the rest of the family skies. Sometimes I simply stay home when they do short ski trips (up to a month), other times I just hang out and find something in town to keep me busy.

I’m not a skier either. I’m happy to curl up in the lodge with a good book. I ice skate or cross-country if they are available. If not, sometimes i find the town spa. 🙂
